On RDS Custom for SQL Server, how can I expand the C drive storage?

I am trying to expand the storage space on the C: drive on RDS Custom for SQL Server. (Not the data disk on D: which can be expanded online.) How can I do this?

Ensure you follow the instructions below. There are many ways to expand the underlying C: EBS volume, but doing it in the wrong way could cause issues.
- Take a backup of everything you need, including both C: drive and a DB snapshot.
- Pause automation.

- Resume automation.
