SideFX/Houdini licensing

Question

I know this not directly an ECS issue, but I'm hoping to find someone who has set up SideFx's Houdini Indie in a dockerized environment.  We are able to get the license to activate (etc/init.d/sesinetd start ; hserver -S https://www.sidefx.com/license/sesinetd ; sesictrl login) but it seems to lose connection with the license server in about an hour.   We have now tried to set-up api-key licensing but the documentation is incomplete so it's starting to become a trial and error game.

I was wondering if you ever had a chance to document the process you used to set this up, and if you would be willing to share that information or any other resources you used in the process of trial and error.

Turns out, it's a nightmare of trial and error.  Once I've documented it, I'll post it here for the benefit of others.
