If you've purchased a Reserved Instance (RI) and the status is stuck as "Payment pending" for an extended period, such as 8 hours after the purchase, there are a few things you should consider:
-
Payment Method: First, ensure that your payment method is correct and has sufficient funds. If there was an issue with your credit card or payment information, this could cause the payment to remain pending.
-
Automatic Retry: AWS may attempt to retry the payment automatically, but this is not guaranteed. The system might make another attempt to charge the correct payment method you have set up.
-
Wait Period: It's generally recommended to wait up to 24 hours to see if the payment processes with your updated payment information.
-
Contact AWS Support: If after 24 hours the status is still "Payment pending," you should contact AWS Support. Create a support case under the billing category and provide information about your RI purchase, including the region where you purchased it.
-
Time Sensitivity: It's important to note that AWS Support can only retry charges for Reserved Instances during the month of purchase. If the initial charge fails and it's no longer within the same month, the invoice payment can't be retried, and the charge is automatically canceled at the end of the month.
-
Repurchase if Necessary: If the payment issue isn't resolved within the same month, you may need to repurchase the Reserved Instance.
-
Console Options: If you're unable to complete the payment or if the "Complete payment" option in the console is greyed out, you should definitely create an AWS Support case to resolve the issue.
Remember, it's crucial to resolve this promptly to ensure you receive the benefits of your Reserved Instances and to avoid any potential issues with your AWS account standing. If you continue to experience issues, don't hesitate to reach out to AWS Support for assistance.
