Issue with Showing Ads to Late-Joining Viewers During Live Broadcast in MediaTailor

0

Hi,

I am experiencing an issue with AWS MediaTailor during live broadcasting. When I insert SCTE-35 markers for an ad break, customers who are already watching the stream see the ad properly. However, customers who join after the ad break has started are seeing the original source content instead of the ad.

I would like to ask a few questions regarding this issue:

Why are late-joining viewers seeing the original source instead of the ad when they enter during an ongoing ad break? Is there a configuration or feature in MediaTailor that could ensure late joiners also see the ad, regardless of when they start watching? Is there a way to enforce ad viewing for all users, or to trigger the ad playback for those who missed it upon joining? If there are any best practices or documentation that could help resolve this issue, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards, HYUNCHUL YANG

When a viewer joins the stream during an ad break, that AWS MediaTailor session is created after the SCTE35 message for ad break was present in the stream. There is no information about the break, and no ads have been retrieved from the Ad Decision Server. The session may not be able to insert ads.

You may want to investigate AWS MediaLive Ad Suppression to determine how to handle the join-during-break scenario. If Ad Suppression is enabled. viewers joining mid break may see the content. View this link to determine if it would help your streaming channel. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediatailor/latest/ug/ad-rules.html

Also, it may be useful to configure Ad Slates to be inserted for several reasons. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/mediatailor/latest/ug/slate-management.html
