aws ec2 import-image from VirtualBox

0

Hello everyone

I am writing to ask about importing aws ec2 image from virtual machine developed in VirtualBox. It has been over an hour since the image import started but the progress has not changed from 39% for about 40 minutes.

The actual importing started about one and a half hours ago, but now it seems it has stopped from progress at 39%. However, the status is still active and status message say booting.

If there is anyone who has faced the same or similar issues in importing image, could you please help to understand this?

If anyone has any idea about how long it takes to boot or complete importing image, could you please tell me about how long does it take?

I would really appreciate your help! Thanks in advance

  • I know this is a year old, but I'm having the same problem. I've successfully followed this same methodology many times in the past using OVA files of many other OSes, and now am trying to import an OVA file of a RedHat9 VM exported from VMware Workstation, but this one seems to be hung at exactly the same spot as what you describe.

    Did your Import ever complete?

  • Mine eventually died with StatusMessage "FirstBootFailure: This import request failed because the instance failed to boot and establish network connectivity."

  • I may have found the solution for this.

I hit the same problem when simply trying to use VMware's "Clone" capability. When I googled that, I found a much more helpful article: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/6988988.

I removed file "/etc/lvm/devices/system.devices" in the VM, and now I can successfully Clone it. I suspect this will also fix the hang during Import to AMI in AWS EC2.
