Reschedule the "system-reboot" maintenance event

0

My EC2 instance is currently scheduled with an reboot event on Oct 27th. Is it possible to perform a manual reboot of instance before the maintenance event since we should avoid rebooting at the unexpected scheduled time?

Acutally I did manual reboot the instance on Oct 21st since I read aws document and could avoid the scheduled event on Oct 27th. However after I rebooted manually, the scheduled "system-reboot" event is still listed in the Events section. I did reboot from Instance State->reboot instance from aws console. Can anybody teach how to avoid the unexpected scheduled timing reboot?

Instead of doing an OS Reboot, you need to stop start the instance from the AWS console. The maintenance is likely to move you off of hardware that needs attention, the only way to do that is with a start/stop from the console or CLI/API.

  • Thanks. If we wait for the scheduled reboot, the maintenance will move us off of the hardware, but we can keep the public auto-assigned ip address. However it will be changed if we start/stop the instance from the console. No other way to keep the public auto-assigned ip address?
