Upgrade windows server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2

Question

I am trying to upgrade the Windows server EC2 instance from 2008 R2 to 2022 but I can't find any documentation for in-place upgrade from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2. Can someone provide me with the instructions? Thanks

Hi sbansal.

The following page has [documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/WindowsGuide/os-inplaceupgrade.html) available for this upgrade. That said, I strongly recommend that you upgrade to a version above 2012 R2 since [Microsoft will end support on October 10, 2023](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/announcements/windows-server-2012-r2-end-of-support).

I cannot find the Windows 2012 R2 Installation Media snapshot to make an in-place upgrade; since I have Windows Server 2008 R2, I have to do this in 2 stages, first from 2008R2 to 2012R2 and then from 2012R2 to 2019 or 2022. Can you please help me with this?
