Hi,
Here are the cross-region Disaster Recovery options available for RDS Oracle for you :-
- DR with RDS for Oracle cross-Region mounted DB replicas : Suitable for RPO and RTO of few minutes. It requires only Oracle EE license on the replica. Oracle Data Guard is included with Oracle EE
- DR with RDS for Oracle cross-Region read replicas : Suitable for RPO and RTO of few minutes. However, this option requires Oracle EE and Active Data Guard licenses
- DR with RDS for cross-Region Automated Backups : PITR using cross-Region Automated Backups may lead to RPO of 25 minutes approximately and RTO in hours.
You may chose the option suitable to you based on the RPO/RTO requirements and cost considerations.
Here is blog series dedicated to “Managed disaster recovery with Amazon RDS for Oracle cross-Region automated backups” – https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/database/managed-disaster-recovery-with-amazon-rds-for-oracle-cross-region-automated-backups-part-1/
Note: RDS cross-region automated backup available in select regions. AWS Backup service allows cross-region backup and PITR. Supported Regions and DB engines for cross-Region automated backups in Amazon RDS : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/Concepts.RDS_Fea_Regions_DB-eng.Feature.CrossRegionAutomatedBackups.html
I hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any clarification.
Best regards, Santosh
