RDS Reserved Instances

According to FAQ (RDS) there is no need to chose a specific AZ when purchasing reserved instances for RDS. Is this true?

"Q: Will there always be reservations available for purchase?

Yes. Reserved Instances are purchased for the Region rather than for the Availability Zone. This means that even if capacity is limited in one Availability Zone, reservations can still be purchased in that Region and used in a different Availability Zone within that Region".

Yes that is correct. For example to purchase a reserved DB instance the customer goes through the steps described in the docs. As you will see there the customer needs to select whether they want to reserve a MultiAZ option or not but not a specific AZ.
