Purchasing a device slot in Device Farm - AWS Device Farm
answered a year ago
To activate a device slot in AWS Device Farm, you need to purchase a device slot, which enables you to run tests or remote access sessions concurrently on real devices. Device slots are not automatically activated—they become available immediately after purchase and allow you to utilize more concurrent devices based on your subscription level.[1][2][3]
How to Activate (Purchase) a Device Slot
- Sign in to the AWS Device Farm console.
- Navigate to Mobile Device Testing in the left navigation, then select Device slots.
- On the Purchase and manage device slots page, choose the number of Automated testing and Remote access slots you want to purchase for the current and next billing periods. The display dynamically updates with the billing amount based on choices.
- Click Purchase and confirm your purchase in the dialog window.[1]
- Device slots are activated immediately and you can start using them for concurrent test runs or remote access sessions.
You can also use the AWS CLI by running the purchase-offering command, or use the API to programmatically purchase slots.[1]
Important Notes
- If your account is not approved for additional slots, you may need to contact AWS support as prompted in the console.
- Slot increases are account-wide and affect all projects within Device Farm.[1]
- Canceling device slots will take effect at the next renewal date, not instantly.[3]
Device Slot Types
- Automated Testing Slots: Allow more concurrent device test runs.
- Remote Access Slots: Allow more simultaneous remote access sessions.[4][2]
Once purchased, the slots are considered "activated" and immediately available for use, meaning you can increase your concurrency limits for testing and remote sessions without further activation steps.[3][1]
