When creating a model with Redshift ML which instances are actually being used and can I specify the instance type?

You cannot specify the instance type with Redshift ML. It leverages Amazon SageMaker behind the scenes which is a fully managed machine learning service. Amazon SageMaker will choose the appropriate instance type based on the model being created.
