Transfer costs to web development customer instead of invoicing them myself separately.

0

Hello,

I am a web developer who has just used AWS for a serverless back-end using route 53, CloudFront, s3, SES, codepipeline, among others. I have tagged everything so that I have one or two cost allocation tags and can see what is being charged with their specific services. What I want to do now is transfer the cost over to them, so they can pay directly instead of me having to bill them monthly for the cost. How do I accomplish this?

Afraid that this is not possible using AWS. You are responsible for paying the invoice each month as your the account holder. Its different than how it works in Azure.

You would have to set this up in one of their accounts

Another other option is to setup an Org with them having their own account in your org and with consolidated billing disabled.

  • Well I don't really know who to talk to about that. I don't see anywhere to invite someone else to create and account and join an organization I've made. The second one I made, apparently I don't even have access to remove it and start over or invite them to join even though I made it? I'm really frustrated with their terrible documentation and endless loops of activating this and that.

Hello Jordan,

If you are a freelance developer working for someone else, I would recommend the following:

  1. Verify is the employer is a member of an AWS Organization.
  2. If the employer is from an organization, the root account can invite your AWS account to join so that all billing is handled by the main payer account.
  3. You will need to keep a credit card on file until the process is completed and then have Enterprise Support remove that credit card from your AWS account. This will be possible when your account becomes a member of your employer's organization.

If your employer does not have an organization setup, here are some documents to guide you:
