Transferring a Domain name into Route53 - Downtime?

0

Basically I'm transferring a domain from GoDaddy to Route53 - and I didn't update the nameservers in GoDaddy to update the DNS service to Route53, before requesting the transfer, and GoDaddy won't allow me to cancel for some reason.

Now on the Route53 side when I transfer in the domain - there is an option 'Import name servers from a Route53 hosted zone that has the same name as the domain' I selected this option, and I'm hoping that it means that it will automatically transfer the DNS service over without my having to manually change it in GoDaddy. My worry is that this option is only available in the 'old console' in the new console it automatically selects 'continue to use the name servers provided by the current registrar or DNS service' - does anyone know why this is the case and if the option in the old console still 'works' and if it works in the way I'm hoping.

I understand that otherwise I may be screwed and brace myself for downtime. Thankfully it's mainly emails but still my job could be at risk. I was basically 'forced' to carry this out quickly ad-hoc without getting a chance to do any documentation and prep prior to and I missed a crucial 'precaution' step of migrating the DNS service before migrating the domain registration.

Thanks for any help :)

  • Well it seems to have transferred the domain in and the DNS to point to the AWS nameservers seamlessly - so I guess it does still work :)
