Managing RDS Snapshots: Removing Automatic Snapshots After Database Deletion

0

I have some RDS snapshots that were automatically created, but I don't need them anymore. However, I'm unable to remove them because the associated database has been deleted and I can't change the auto-snapshot period to zero.

To delete a retained automatic backup

  1. sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the Amazon RDS console (https://console.aws.amazon.com/rds/ ).
  2. In the navigation pane, select Automated backups.
  3. On the Retained tab, select the retained automated backup you wish to delete.
  4. Under Action, select Delete.
  5. On the confirmation page, enter "delete me" and select Delete.

  • Not possible. Error: You can't delete a system snapshot. To remove system snapshots for an active DB instance, modify the DB instance and reduce the automated backup window. To remove system snapshots for a deleted instance, delete the retained automated backup.

  • Perhaps you are trying to remove it from the snapshot screen. Instead, open "Retained" from the "Automated backups" screen below, select the appropriate snapshot, and delete it from the actions in the upper right corner. rds

Hi VanArt,

If I understand correctly when you deleted your instance your backup retention period was not 0 e.g. 7 days. If this was the case the snapshots will be removed after 7 days, there is no action you need to take.

I hope that helps :)
