AWS MFA code not working

0

I'm trying to log into my root user account, and im being asked to enter a 6 digit MFA code. I've tried doing this multiple times and it keeps denying the code. I'm using the authenticator app. I'm no longer using AWS and want to close everything I have which is why im needing to log into the root user to do that. I can log into my IAM user no problem, but for whatever reason, the MFA code needed to log into the root user is failing. Can someone please help me!

Thanks

Hello.

Have you tried recovering the MFA for the root user using the steps in the document below?

If you are unable to recover your MFA using the steps in the above document, please contact AWS via the URL below.
The form below is for inquiries if your MFA device is lost or becomes unusable.

If you’re unable to log into the root account due to MFA issues, there are two alternative paths:

  1. If the account is part of an AWS Organization

    • You can close the account directly from the management (payer) account without needing root login to the member account.
  2. If it’s a standalone AWS account

    • Root login is required to close it.
    • If the MFA is not working, you must contact AWS Support for a root MFA reset.
    • Support will guide you through verification steps (like answering security questions) to reset MFA and regain access.

You can start the process here: AWS Support Contact

⚠️ Note: AWS will never bypass root MFA without proper verification, so support is the only path if MFA codes fail.
