Hello.
Check the CloudTrail event history and can you find the "CreateDBCluster" event?
If you can't find this event, the API execution may have failed.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/awscloudtrail/latest/userguide/tutorial-event-history.html
If you cannot find the event, check your browser's developer tools to see if any communication errors occurred when you pressed the Create button.
When you're experiencing issues with DocumentDB cluster creation that seems to hang without completing or showing errors, there are a few things to consider:
-
Cluster creation is an asynchronous operation - you request the creation and then need to wait for the operation to complete. This process can take some time.
-
To check the status of your cluster creation, you can use the AWS CLI command
aws docdb describe-db-clustersor the GetDBCluster API to see the current status and any potential error messages. -
Common issues that might prevent cluster creation include:
- You may have reached your quota limit for DocumentDB clusters. There's a maximum allowed number of clusters per account.
- There might be insufficient permissions for the role being used during the creation process.
- Network, S3, or CloudWatch resource access issues could be preventing proper setup.
-
If the cluster status shows "creating" for an extended period, it could indicate an underlying issue that's not being surfaced in the UI.
-
You can also try creating the cluster using the AWS CLI instead of the UI to see if you get more detailed error information. For example:
aws docdb create-db-cluster \
--db-cluster-identifier my-cluster \
--engine docdb \
--master-username username \
--master-user-password password
If the problem persists, I recommend checking your service quotas in the AWS console to ensure you haven't reached your cluster limit, and reviewing CloudTrail logs for any failed API calls related to DocumentDB cluster creation.

Facing same error, with free account. Tested with two different browsers, after clicking on "Create" there are no response at all. CloudTrail does not record events on the click on create button. I see some events like describeKey, describeInstance, but it does not appear.
Using CLI command it returns: "An error occurred (InternalFailure) when calling the CreateDBCluster operation (reached max retries: 2): Unknown"
