Change default username custom AMI for EC2 Instance Connect

0

I've created a custom AMI myself and uploaded this to AWS. It's all working fine, except, when I spin up an EC2 instance, and look in EC2 Instance Connect, I find the default Username as root. of course I can change this, but my AMI is using ec2-user as the default username. Root is locked. I prefer to have ec2-user as the default username in the field as well.

Is there a way I can change this default username somehow?

Hello.

As far as I know, as of August 2024, I don't think there was an option to change the default user of EC2 Instance Connect.
I recommend that you send feedback on the UI from the feedback button at the bottom left of the AWS Management Console, as it should probably be possible to resolve the issue with the UI.

  • Thanks, I've sent feedback to AWS, and considering creating a support ticket as well.

For now I'll just manually type ec2-user when logging in via instance connect.
