AWS BluAge AppStream - workspace folder disappeared due to streaming URL expired

0

Hello,

I have reached the Execution - Test phase. It seems my streaming URL got expired [Error msg 400. Bad Request]. Hene I created a new URL with same user id [BluAge-L3-Workshop-User] but the Workspace folder[D:\PhotonUser\Workshop\workspace] is not found.

Can anyone please help me to recover the work done.

Thanks in advance for your help !

  • Hi, Appstream cannot persist data between sessions if these are not in the locations indicated here: For single-session, non-domain-joined Windows instances: C:\Users\PhotonUser\My Files\Home Folder. Some other options can be found here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/home-folders.html

  • Thanks camlon for your suggestion !

FYI, I found a solution to restore the data when streaming URL expired. PFB

    1. Download Profile.vhdx of your previous streaming url
    2. Delete the Profile.vhdx from current streaming session and upload the previous one

My data was restored in new streaming URL.

Hello,

Data are not persisted in an appstream environment except for D:/PhotonUser as explained here : Storage consideration.

Scenario/ Issue:

When the streaming URL of an AppStream 2.0 stack expires, a new streaming URL must be generated to continue working. To access the existing data, the same User ID must be used when regenerating the streaming URL. If a different User ID is used (by mistake), a new instance will be created without any existing data in it.

This troubleshooting guide presents a way to retrieve the original instance, which contains all your existing data.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Terminate any running session of the AppStream stack.
  2. Go to S3 and navigate to a path similar to: s3://appstream-app-settings-... /Windows/version/Server-2019/BluAge-L3-Workshop-Stack/custom/ (e.g., s3://appstream-app-settings-eu-central-1-820242900304-4la3rs9b/Windows/v6/Server-2019/BluAge-L3-Workshop-Stack/custom/ ).
  3. There you will see more than one key, each one corresponding to each stack instance you might have created. You need to carefully delete all the keys EXCEPT the ONLY ONE which is having the largest sized Profile.vhdx file in it.
  4. Now, go back to your AppStream 2.0 stack and create a streaming URL with the exact same User ID as your original streaming URL, and launch it. You should get back all your data.
