AWS Backup/DLM data transfer cross accounts

0

I have questions regarding the cost of cross-account backups in AWS Backup and Data Lifecycle Manager.

  1. How is this backup done between accounts? What I mean is, how is this transfer done, is it over the internet?
  2. What is the cost of this cross account and cross region backup using AWS backup?
  3. And what would it cost to make a snapshot copy of the DLM for cross account and cross region?
  4. If I do a cross-acount or cross-region backup using AWS Backup, does the receiving account also have to pay for the backup storage? Does the same happen if I make a snapshot copy using DLM from one account to another?

  1. How is this backup done between accounts? What I mean is, how is this transfer done, is it over the internet?

AWS Backup uses Amazon S3 for storing backups, and data replication between accounts or regions is done over Amazon's internal network. This ensures data security and reduces latency. Similarly, when making a snapshot copy using DLM, the snapshot copy process also happens within the AWS infrastructure. Data is transferred securely without using the public internet.

  1. What is the cost of this cross account and cross region backup using AWS backup?

The cost of cross-account and cross-region backups using AWS Backup depends on factors such as the amount of data being backed up, the storage class you choose, and any additional data transfer costs between accounts or regions. AWS Backup pricing is based on storage usage and data transfer rates. https://aws.amazon.com/backup/pricing/

  1. And what would it cost to make a snapshot copy of the DLM for cross account and cross region?

The cost of snapshot copies using DLM also varies based on factors like the size of the snapshots, the storage class, and any data transfer costs. DLM uses Amazon EBS snapshots for the copies. https://aws.amazon.com/backup/pricing/

  1. If I do a cross-acount or cross-region backup using AWS Backup, does the receiving account also have to pay for the backup storage? Does the same happen if I make a snapshot copy using DLM from one account to another?

In the context of cross-account backups using AWS Backup, the receiving account (where the backups are stored) will be responsible for the storage costs of the backups. These costs are associated with the storage class you choose for the backups. When you create a snapshot copy using DLM and send it to a different account, the receiving account will incur storage costs for the snapshots copied into its account.
