Clarification Needed on Scheduled Maintenance Impact for Upgraded Direct Connect

0

Hi Experts,

I have a question regarding the maintenance of AWS Direct Connect hosted endpoints. I received an email from AWS notifying me about scheduled maintenance on our Direct Connect connection and Transit VIF next week.

Recently, I upgraded my existing Direct Connect connection bandwidth . During this upgrade, I switched my Transit VIF to the new connection and deleted the old one. The new connection has been working smoothly without any issues.

My question is: will the scheduled maintenance still impact me since I'm using the same VIF but with an upgraded connection?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi, When there is a maintenance it can affect connectivity or not depending on the type of maintenance so if you received a scheduled maintenance notice you should treat it as if you will be impacted. You should always have redundancy in place as maintenance will always be performed to patch, upgrade or replace equipment's to insure optimal performance and security. To achieve quick failover, BFD should be configured and operational on each of your VIF's on your DX. There are multiple ways to test your redundancy, one will be to bring down the link on your side and the other is to use the DX failover automated testing to bring down the BGP session from the AWS side. Hope this helps.

Hello.

I believe there may be some downtime during maintenance.
If DirectConnect has a redundant configuration, I don't think you need to worry too much about it, but if it doesn't, I think it may stop temporarily.
