minimum object size of 128kb at One Zone Infrequent Access Storage Class?

0

Hi there, I am planning on uploading a couple of hundreds TB file server data for archival into Glacier Deep Archive. I understand that there is a minimum object size von 128kb for any of the glacier storage classes. Additionally I found in the documentation there a 8kb and 32kb metadata will be created for every object stored in Glacier.

Having that informationen, I decided to store smaller files in IA or one zone IA. I could not find any information in the AWS sites itself about a minimum object size on IA as well which then would lead me avoid this storage class as well. But what is confusing me is that a couple of external websites explaining the pricing of S3 do claim that there actually is a 128kb minimum object size on IA as well.

Is that just outdated information? Or in other words: Beyond Glacier, is there any minimum object size (billing wise).

Thanks Markus

It has the minimum object size too, you can find it here.

From the page linked above:

S3 Standard-IA and S3 One Zone-IA storage have a minimum billable object size of 128 KB. Smaller objects may be stored but will be charged for 128 KB of storage at the appropriate storage class rate.

The AWS S3 pricing below has relevant information about how it works with IA and Glacier (see notes in ** and ***) section. https://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/

The user guide outlines some best practices for this. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/lifecycle-transition-general-considerations.html

S3 intelligent tiering helps to optimize costs by automatically moving data to the most cost effective tier when access pattern change. One can opt-in to Archive Access Tier or Deep Archive Access Tier. https://aws.amazon.com/s3/storage-classes/intelligent-tiering/
