Firehose compression cost

Is there an additional cost when we compress data like bzip? It is not clear from the firehose pricing web and I need this information for some realistic cost calculations: https://aws.amazon.com/kinesis/data-firehose/pricing/?nc=sn&loc=3

Hi,

In documentation there is no explicit additional cost when using compression in Firehose. It is more how compression influences ingestion price, as the more data is compressed => the less amount of data needs to be ingested/stored => the less you pay.

Hope it clarifies.

There are four main components to Kinesis Data Firehose pricing:

  • Ingestion (per-GB / tiered)
  • Format Conversion (per-GB)
  • VPC Delivery (per-GB)
  • Dynamic Partitioning (per-GB)

Specifying compression in your KDF configuration will not affect Kinesis pricing, but could lower storage pricing depending on where the data is being pushed.
