Cognito existing user pool: Make the email address case insensitive

Hey,

I have a user pool but currently, the email is set (by default) as case sensitive. I would like to change it to be case insensitive. Obviously, Cloudformation refuses to do it. what should I do? What are the steps? Also, BTW, what should I do to have the email being the official username?

First, thanks for the really detailed answer.

Regarding the manual changes suggested: It looks like the step you're describing are through the old console. I tried it but since it's an existing pool, the editing is blocked and I can't change this setup.

Regarding the CF template,: You're setting the CaseInsensitive flag at the attribute level, which is different than what I saw here. Should I do both?
