I have solved this by completely shutting down and restarting Sagemaker. Go to "File -> Shut Down -> Shutdown All". This will shutdown the Jupyter server, running images and kernels. Scripts and data stored on Sagemaker are kept, so no files are lost, nothing to worry about.

Can you test shutting down the terminal session using the off button next to the terminal session in the screenshot you provided? You can then create a new terminal session.

Thanks for your reply. To clarify, I have tried the off button next to the terminal session, I have tried the 'x' to close all terminals, I have tried File -> Shutdown terminal, but nothing works. There is no response to any of these actions.
