AWS account closure

0

I tried to close my AWS account by going to the account page and clicking on the 'close account' button. Then I entered my account ID, but the button to close the account remains greyed out and non-functional. What do I have to do to close the account?

To close your AWS account, you need to ensure you're following the correct procedure. The most common reason for the "Close account" button remaining greyed out is that you're not signed in as the root user. You cannot close an AWS account while signed in as an IAM user or role.

Here's the proper process to close your AWS account:

  1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console specifically as the root user of the account you want to close.
  2. On the navigation bar in the upper-right corner, choose your account name or number, and then choose "Account".
  3. On the Account page, locate and click the "Close account" button.
  4. Type your account ID (which will be displayed at the top of the closure dialog box) to confirm you understand the account closure process.
  5. Click the "Close account" button again to initiate the closure process.
  6. You should receive an email confirmation within a few minutes that your account has been closed.

If you've verified you're signed in as the root user and are still experiencing issues with the button remaining greyed out, you may need to contact AWS Support directly for assistance with your specific account situation.
