Hi All.Are there any Python SDKs to enable protect recovered instance and then proceed with the reverse replication within region from AZ2 to AZ1 using AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS) ?

Yes, there are Python SDKs available to enable protection of recovered instances and perform reverse replication within a region from one Availability Zone to another using AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS).

You can use the Boto3 library, which is the official AWS SDK for Python, to interact with the DRS service. Specifically, you can use the drs client in Boto3 to perform these operations.

To protect a recovered instance and start reverse replication, you would typically follow these steps:

  1. First, ensure that your replication settings and launch template subnets are configured to use a subnet in a different Availability Zone than the one hosting the current EC2 instance associated with the recovery instance.

  2. Use the reverse_replication method of the DRS client to start the replication process. This method applies to protected instances that originated in EC2 and can be used to start replication back to the origin region for recovery instances.

Here's a basic example of how you might use the Boto3 SDK to start reverse replication:

import boto3

drs_client = boto3.client('drs')

response = drs_client.reverse_replication(
    recoveryInstanceID='your-recovery-instance-id'
)

print(response['reversedDirectionSourceServerArn'])

This code snippet initializes a DRS client and calls the reverse_replication method with the ID of your recovery instance. The method returns the ARN of the created Source Server, which you can use for further operations or tracking.

Remember to replace 'your-recovery-instance-id' with the actual ID of the recovery instance you want to protect and replicate.

By using these SDK methods, you can automate the process of protecting recovered instances and performing reverse replication between Availability Zones within the same region using AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery.
