Hello, I am following this guide to connect a raspberry pi 3 to the AWS IoT Core. At the step to "Install the current AWS IoT Device SDK for Python" I execute the command python3 -m pip install awsiotsdk but I get the following error:

I have installed python 3.11.2 on the raspberry pi. I also have installed openssl according to this guide. I have searched through the internet for possible solutions but none has worked. Can you please help me? Thank you very much.

After a lot of research I managed to resolve the issue on my own.

The problem had to do with the ssl module not being available in python when installing package with pip3. Actually I found out that I was getting the error: pip is configured with locations that require TLS-SSL, however the ssl module in Python is not available.

So I followed these steps and the error was resolved:

  1. Install openssl, please refer to this page: https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001435926-Installing-OpenSSL-locally-under-your-username

  2. Go to python3.11.2 folder and run the command: "./configure --with-openssl=/home/<username>/openssl"

  3. Run "sudo make altinstall" to compile python with openssl included

  4. Lastly, run "python3 -m ssl" and if nothing outputs, it's ok.
