So not sure the above is accurate. FIrst I have never used the Windows Mail client always outlook. I have been using traditonal Outlook forever and auto discovery worked for everything (AWS, etc) except it did not work with Google except for IMAP.. AWS WOrkmail always autodiscovered using Exchagne Basic Authentication (user name + PW). THe new Outlook 365 client version 1.2024.708.200 (complete new version not just upgrade) nolonger wrks with AWS Workmail auto discovery. Best I can determne it is becasue effective immediatley Microsfot nolonger support the older protocols (Exchange Basic authentication is nolonger supported). They now support the newer more secure 2FA or OAuth protocols. I am pretty certain your tests were not done with this newer Outlook 365 client
Hi,
Can you share which version of Outlook you're using? I tested my set-up and with an fully up to date office 365 version (current release) I'm still able to configure new profiles using basic auth. I've also pinged the service team to look into this, I will share updates if they have any.
Kind regards, Robin
using outlook classic ..... wont allow any exchange server connection with AWS Workmail. No auto config works that i have found. Let me know if it still works for you. It works on other laptops that already were setup and accepted. Any new profile setup on a new laptop is where I am having the issue.
Hi,
I've received some questions from the service team. They took a look at the logs and noticed for you account connections came from the "New" outlook that is a replacement for the "Mail" app in Windows. This app indeed does not have any support for legacy Exchange protocols and therefor only supports connecting to WorkMail via IMAP/SMTP.
The latest Outlook version from Microsoft office 365 does work with WorkMail via all supported protocols to get the full Outlook experience.
Kind regards, Robin
This is still not really answered, just confirmed that Amazon Workmail is not compatible with the newer version of MS Outlook since it no longer supports Exchange Basic Auth, which is how Amazon Workmail currently works. This is evidenced by it working fine in Outlook's legacy mode. The real question here is what is the roadmap plan for Amazon Workmail to support more modern OAuth / 2FA protocols so we get full functionality with calendar, contacts, etc, in the new Outlook versions for Windows and Mac?
AWS, the next logical web search your customers will do (as I am now), will be "how to migrate from Amazon Workmail to Microsoft Office 365".

Hi,
Yes the above information is accurate. The Outlook you are using is "Outlook (new)" (verified based on the client version) which is a new mail client released by Microsoft as a free replacement of the "Mail" app that was preciously available with Windows.
This Outlook client is not an upgrade of the previous Desktop Outlook that comes with Office. This client lacks a lot of the features that come with the Office version of Outlook and indeed lacks protocol support for WorkMail.
The Desktop Outlook client that comes with Office installations still does work with WorkMail like you're used to.
Kind regards, Robin
agghhhhh Thank you for the clarification. I dug deeper into it as well and realized that the new client is only in Opt In status now and GA is not officially announced (least not that I can find).
