What can cause a rapid drop in RDS MySQL Database free storage space?

How could my MySQL database on Amazon RDS have recently gone from 29 GB free to 13 GB within about only 1 hour of some processing? And when I checked the size of data through workbench, it shows unchanged. If anyone can help. Also after few hours when the processing is completed, the free storage increases to its original value.

I have seen this when someone is using a lot of TEMPDB, Writing a lot of data to a database or broken replication where the trans logs grow because they cant be sent to the read-replica..
