Edge optimized API GW

When we deploy edge optimized API GW, do we deploy any part of API GW itself in the CloudFront or still API GW is deployed inside Region?

API Gateway remains in the region it was provisioned from, we simply put a managed CloudFront distribution with no caching turned up in front of it.
