opensearch rare latency spikes

We are using Lambda to store/update SES events in Elasticsearch. Most of the time, the mget API takes between 150-300ms, but very rarely it takes more than 1000ms. The same is the issue for indexing. I am not sure what is causing this extra latency. I checked CloudWatch, and there was no search latency. What else should I check?
