Does cloudfront or lightsail effect the availability of DNS record updates?

I have 2 domain names, ones been waiting to verify with Mailchimp for around 8 days, the other was able to verify within 60 seconds of me making the changes. Third party DNS checkers verify that my other domain name has no new records, the domain that works already updated. The domain name that is not changing has Cloudfront on it and is serving content publically via a lightsail instance, the domain name that had no problem updating DNS is a new-register and isn't attached to any cloudfront or any instances.

Do I have to disable cloudfront or do something in lightsail in order for DNS updates to be seen by the outside world?

I've answered this question myself -- my lightsail instance has a DNS zone, edit DNS in lightsail, not Route53
