Capability to existing Glacier Pool VT's to Deep Archive Pool

0

With the latest announcement of the Glacier Deep Archive and pricing we saw the benefits to us utilizing SG and VTL's in a 3-2-1 deployment in being that this data is seldomly, if ever, touched (or hopefully never touched). That being said we are able to create new tapes and select which archive pool they should belong in.

This a nice start, however I am interested in the capability of being able to migrate our existing Glacier Pool tapes that are archived to the Deep Archive Pool.

This is ideal for these types of deployments. Another feature that may beneficial is to do the opposite when/if need be as well, if data is determined it should reside in Glacier Pool and needs to be moved over from the Deep Archive Pool.

I am curious if:

  1. This is currently able to be done (easily..?) and
  2. If not, is there a roadmap for this capability/feature? It seems like an obvious one that does not exist currently.

Thank you.

Hi XLwb,

Thanks for providing us your feedback.

Regarding your question on moving tapes existing in Glacier to Deep Archive, we are planning to add this capability this quarter (Q2'19). We also covered it in the Storage Gateway FAQ under Tape Gateway.

Regarding the other question on moving tapes from Deep Archive to Glacier, if you could please PM me with your use case and additional details, it will be great.
