Lightsail Instance 1GB/1Core Keeps going down

0

I've tried running a LightSail WordPress instance for awhile now (4-5 months) and I'm having some stability problems. I started out with the low end instance 512MB/1Core and started having issues where it will occasionally go down. It says still running but it's unreachable. This is usually coincided with some network traffic and a short CPU spike. This usually doesn't last very long but it never comes back up. If I stop, wait, start then it works again. If I add a R53 healthcheck it will go down within 24 hours. I only get about 50 visits a day (max) to the site so I know it's very low traffic.

I thought maybe the instance was underpowered so I upped it to 1GB/1core and it went down again today after running only about 1 day.

There's clearly something wrong here. Can I get some assistance on determining what is going on here?

Thanks in advance!

I'm able to run a number of basic wordpress servers in a single 512mb lightsail instance.

The only thing I did was buy 8gb of extra storage and make it a swap partition.

Before I had the swap partition, the mySQL server was constantly crashing due to OOM problems.

I blogged about it here: https://www.geekyramblings.net/2018/02/01/amazon-lightsail#512mb-isnt-a-lot-of-memory

This definitely fixed my problem. After implementing a swapfile, the instance has been stable ever since.

I appreciate your help!!
