Yes, AWS OpsWorks is indeed reaching its end of life. There are three main components of AWS OpsWorks, and they have different end-of-life dates:
-
AWS OpsWorks Stacks: This service reached its end of life on May 26, 2024. It has been disabled for both new and existing customers. The OpsWorks console, API, CLI, and CloudFormation resources have been discontinued in all AWS Regions.
-
AWS OpsWorks for Chef Automate: This service reached its end of life on May 5, 2024. After this date, customers can no longer manage their servers using the OpsWorks console or API.
-
AWS OpsWorks for Puppet Enterprise: This service reached its end of life on March 31, 2024. The API and Console became unusable in all regions after this date.
To answer your specific question about the AWS console: EC2 will remain, but you will no longer be able to operate it from the AWS OpsWorks console.
AWS strongly recommends that customers migrate their workloads to other solutions as soon as possible. For those who were using OpsWorks Stacks, AWS suggests considering alternatives like AWS Systems Manager. For Chef Automate users, migrating to Chef SaaS is recommended. Puppet Enterprise users are advised to consider migrating to Amazon EC2 for managing their infrastructure with Puppet Enterprise.
If you have any questions about migration or need assistance, it's recommended to reach out to the AWS Support Team on AWS re:Post or through AWS Premium Support.
