Being billed for an inaccessible account

0

Hello, I am being charged around $28 every month. I only have one AWS account and the charges there all show up as zero for the past year. I used to own a domain and a domain email both of which I no longer have/own. So, I cannot login to AWS using that account. I suspect I am receiving charges for that. However, I am not fully sure. How can I get the billing stopped / find out what services I am being billed for or why?

Thank you

I understand your concern about being charged for an AWS account you can't access. This is a common issue that can occur when people have multiple AWS accounts or lose access to their original account credentials. Here's what you can do to address this situation:

  1. First, confirm that the charges are indeed from AWS. Check your bank or credit card statement to verify the source of the $28 monthly charge.

  2. If you're certain it's from AWS, but you can't access the account, you'll need to contact AWS Support directly. You can do this without logging into an AWS account by using their account and billing support form.

  3. When contacting AWS Support, provide as much information as possible to help them identify and verify your ownership of the account. This may include:

    • The email address associated with the account (even if you no longer have access to it)
    • The name on the account
    • The billing address
    • Any other identifying information you can remember from when you set up the account
  4. Explain your situation in detail, including that you no longer have access to the original email or account credentials, but you're still being charged.

  5. Request that AWS investigate the charges and help you regain access to the account so you can properly close it or at least stop the ongoing charges.

  6. Do not simply block the charges from your credit card or bank, as this could lead to complications with AWS and potentially affect your credit standing.

  7. If you're unable to make progress with AWS Support, you may need to consult with a legal professional who specializes in technology and contract law to explore your options for resolving this situation.

Remember, AWS takes account security very seriously, so they will need to verify your identity before making any changes to the account or billing. Be patient and provide as much information as possible to help them assist you effectively.
