RDS blue/green deployment

I'm trying to upgrade RDS from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8. As of now, in the testing phase, I'm performing all write operations from the master (Blue) and read operations from the Green replica. However, I have noticed a replication lag. Can you suggest how we can avoid or minimize this replication lag issue?
