There appears to be a configuration issue with Claude Sonnet 4.5 on Amazon Bedrock where the model incorrectly identifies itself as Claude 3.5 Sonnet and claims an outdated knowledge cutoff date.
This is similar to a known issue that has been reported with Claude Sonnet 4 on Bedrock, where that model also incorrectly identified itself as Claude 3.5 Sonnet and claimed an April 2024 knowledge cutoff instead of its actual January 2025 cutoff date.
The discrepancy is likely due to a configuration or initialization problem with how the model is deployed on the Bedrock platform. When the same Claude models are accessed directly through Anthropic's own platform, they correctly identify themselves and their knowledge cutoff dates.
This issue could be caused by:
- An incorrect system prompt configuration in Bedrock
- The model not being properly initialized with its correct identity
- Differences in how the model is deployed on Bedrock versus directly through Anthropic
Since you're being charged for Claude Sonnet 4.5 but receiving responses that indicate an older model with outdated knowledge, this is definitely an issue that should be escalated to AWS Support or the Bedrock team. Similar discrepancies between Bedrock and direct Anthropic access have been reported before, suggesting this is a technical issue that needs addressing by AWS.
I recommend contacting AWS Support to report this issue so they can investigate and correct the configuration problem.
