SageMaker AI Savings Plans calculator issue with P5 instance pricing

0

I saw that AWS announced new pricing for several GPU instances including the P5. While they published the Savings Plans discounts for the EC2 service, I did not see any discounts listed for the SageMaker AI Savings Plans. I went to https://aws.amazon.com/savingsplans/ml-pricing/ to check for myself, but while the on-demand price is updated to show the new discounted price, the Savings Plans show the old prices making for negative savings calculations. I'm guessing the calculator just needs updating, but wanted to know how long that usually takes? Or if anyone knows if the SageMaker AI Savings Plan discounts typically match one of the EC2 ones in %savings?

AWS recently announced price reductions for Amazon SageMaker AI GPU-accelerated instances, including P4 (P4d and P4de) and P5 (P5, P5e, and P5en) instance types, with reductions of up to 45%. These price reductions apply to both On-Demand and Savings Plan pricing in all regions where these instances are available.

According to the announcement, the pricing reduction for On-Demand purchases began on June 9, while the Savings Plan purchases will be effective after June 16. This timing difference might explain why you're seeing updated On-Demand prices but not yet seeing updated Savings Plan prices in the calculator.

SageMaker AI Savings Plans typically provide savings of up to 64% off On-Demand rates. These plans automatically apply to eligible SageMaker ML instance usage regardless of instance family, size, Region, and component (such as Notebook, Training, etc.).

Since the Savings Plan pricing update is scheduled to take effect after June 16, you may need to wait until then to see the updated pricing reflected in the calculator. After that date, the calculator should properly show the new discounted rates for both On-Demand and Savings Plans pricing.
