Account Activation Problem

0

I reached out earlier about this concern: " When I try providing my phone number to receive text via SMS for my AWS account verification, I always get "Sorry, there was an error processing your request. Please try again and if the error persists, contact AWS Customer Support". I am from Kenya, Nairobi".

Your team responded with this email message: "Greetings from Amazon Web Services,

Thank you for contacting us. This is an automated response to help resolve your issue. To provide you with a more secure experience, we require you to complete our identity verification process. This process requires you to provide a valid email address, credit/debit card and phone number. According to our records, you still need to verify your phone number.

Verifying your phone number takes only a few minutes, and involves receiving an automated phone call. See the following link for steps and a video on how to verify your phone number: https://aws.amazon.com/premiumsupport/knowledge-center/create-and-activate-aws-account/

Your account and AWS services will be available for use after you complete the account activation process.

If you need assistance after working through the automated account activation process or if you have any other questions, respond to this support case. For immediate assistance, select the “Phone” or “Chat” option when responding."

However, this is the clarity of what I am experiencing: The problem is, I already provided my official email and credit card credentials in the initial rounds of creating my AWS account and they were already verified and redirected to a page to provide my phone number for a code verification. It is at this particular stage that the persistent failure occurs. My AWS account is already opened, and I can log into it. However, since I am not fully verified, if I try to access services like IAM, am always redirected to "Complete your account setup Thanks for signing up for Amazon Web Services. If we have directed you to this page, then you have either not finished registering, or your account is currently on free plan.

Account setup checklist Provided all required information during sign-up. This includes adding a payment method, completing identity verification, and selecting a support plan. Responded to any additional information we have requested by email. Check your spam and junk email folders to make sure you have not missed any such requests. Verified your credit card information. We might temporarily hold up to $1 USD (or an equivalent amount in local currency) as a pending transaction for 3-5 days to verify your identity. This is an authorization, and you might need to contact your card issuer to approve it. It might take up to 24 hours to fully activate your AWS services. If you can’t access your services after that time, contact support." which upon clicking redirects me to the phone number code generation problem above.

I understand I am on a free plan and a practicing developer and I am trying to leverage this offer: " Claim up to $200 AWS credits Your journey to the cloud is just a few clicks away. Complete your AWS account registration and activate up to $200 in AWS credits.

  1. Create a free account Receive up to $200 in credits Gain $100 credit at sign-up and up to $100 more to earn as you explore essential Amazon Web Services. Learn more

  2. Utilize AWS for up to 6 months without cost or commitment Test drive AWS services with the free plan for up to 6 months. You won’t be charged unless you choose the paid plan. Learn more

  3. Paid plan option available Scale workloads beyond credit thresholds and gain access to all AWS services and features. Learn more" before I begin the payment option since I am working on a development mode at the moment.

I understand your frustration with the phone verification issue you're experiencing during your AWS account activation process. This is a known issue that can occur during the verification process, especially with international phone numbers like yours from Kenya.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Make sure you're entering your phone number correctly, including the country code and area code for Kenya.

  2. Check that your phone has good reception and that international calls are enabled on your number.

  3. Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then attempt the verification process again.

  4. If possible, try using a different phone number for verification.

Since these steps haven't worked for you, I recommend requesting manual account activation through AWS Support:

  1. Go to the AWS Support console and choose "Create case"
  2. Select "Account and billing support"
  3. For Type, choose "Account", and for Category, select "Activation"
  4. In the Description section, clearly explain your issue with your Kenyan phone number
  5. Provide a specific date and time when you can be reached
  6. For Contact methods, select "Chat" for potentially faster response

AWS Support should be able to help you with manual account activation if the automated phone verification continues to fail. They may call you directly and ask you to confirm your AWS account ID.

You can create and manage support cases even if your account isn't fully activated yet, and AWS Support should be able to help you complete your account verification process so you can access the free tier benefits and credits you mentioned.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear you're running into this issue with your AWS account activation. Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that the activation of your AWS account is giving you trouble. It sounds like a vicious cycle. It appears from the information you have given that there is a particular technical problem with the phone number verification procedure for your account in your area. The next step is to seek direct assistance from AWS Support since you have already attempted the common troubleshooting procedures and the automated response did not fix your issue. The following is a suggested course of action: "If you need assistance after working through the automated account activation process... respond to this support case," reads the automated email you received. You must do this. Directly reply to the email that AWS Support sent you. Give Specific Details Give a detailed explanation of what you've already shared in your response. Be succinct but comprehensive. Mention that you're from Nairobi, Kenya. Declare that the credit card and email verification processes were completed successfully. Indicate that you are experiencing a persistent "Sorry, there was an error processing your request" message during the last phone number verification step.Provide the precise error message. Keep in mind that despite your repeated attempts, the error still occurs.Make it clear that although your account is "open" and you are able to log in, the incomplete activation prevents you from using services like IAM. Make a Manual Review Request: Request a manual review of the activation status of your account. AWS Support's human agent can look into the problem on their end, avoiding the automated system that's causing it. Give a Different Way to Get in Touch If they need to try a different phone verification method, provide them with an alternate way to reach you, like a different phone number or a specific time window. Using this method will put your case in front of a real person who can diagnose the particular backend problem that is keeping your account from being fully activated. I wish you luck and hope you find a solution quickly!
