Does anyone having problem with AWS billing for ubuntu pro?

0

We are looking to switch to ubuntu pro and ran into problem with billing. For t3a.nano running 18.04 lts, AWS provides pricing guideline on website (https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-rhaqbfd6lepbw#pdp-pricing) Software License - $0.001/hr + EC2 Instance - $0.005/hr = Total - $0.006/hr

We are charged - $0.0082 / hr on demand cost and then our savings plan for EC2 instance was deducted as - $0.0037 / hr (for half the time) and a net charge of $0.0045 / hr

bill for ubuntu pro

There are few issues here -

  1. On demand price should have $0.006 / hr and not $0.0082 / hr as charged
  2. The credit should have been $0.005 / hr for EC2 instance and not $0.0037 / hr
  3. The net charge for software license should have been $0.001 / hr instead of $0.0045 /hr

I had a long and frustrating chat with AWS support center. Just checking if I am missing something here.

The figure in the screengrab from AWS Billing on your account matches exactly https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/on-demand/

Enter image description here

So the question to ask is why that set of figures doesn't align with those on the Ubuntu page on AWS Marketplace. Albeit the "Pricing Information" section includes a disclaimer twice calling it an "estimate". And the set of figures in that section are more like those on https://ubuntu.com/aws/pro and in the datasheet at https://assets.ubuntu.com/v1/f8087897-Ubuntu_Pro_AWS_07.12.21.1.pdf both of which are obviously Ubuntu-maintained and not AWS-maintained.

It would be interesting to know if the figure on Marketplace constitutes an offer by AWS to sell the product/service at the indicated price, or whether it's just an indicative "best efforts" guess by Canonical and not enforceable on AWS (note that the EULA link on the marketplace page opens a link to an agreement between the customer and Canonical, not AWS).

Thanks for your response. I missed the EC2 pricing information. I agree, AWS needs to clarify why they have two pricing information on their website, whoever maintains it. The difference is material enough to require an explanation.

The second question is why the ec2 charge was for 10.83 hours while the savings plan credit was for 5.05 hour as provided in the screen capture. These two should match as well, unless I am missing something. If the credit was given for 10.83 hours, the difference would have washed out.
