To connect your custom domain from GoDaddy to your AWS Amplify hosted NextJS application, you're facing a common issue with the A record (also known as ANAME record) configuration. GoDaddy, like many domain registrars, doesn't support ANAME records directly and only allows IP addresses for A records.
Here's what you can do to resolve this issue:
-
Use CNAME flattening: Some domain registrars offer a feature called CNAME flattening or ANAME, which allows you to point your root domain to a CNAME. Check if GoDaddy offers this feature for your domain.
-
Use a DNS provider that supports ANAME records: If GoDaddy doesn't offer CNAME flattening, you can consider transferring your DNS management to a provider that supports ANAME records while keeping your domain registration with GoDaddy. Providers like CloudFlare or DNS Made Easy support this feature.
-
Use a subdomain: If the above options aren't feasible, you can use a subdomain like "www" for your site. Set up a CNAME record for "www" pointing to the Cloudfront domain provided by Amplify. Then, set up a redirect from your root domain to the "www" subdomain.
-
Contact GoDaddy support: Reach out to GoDaddy's customer support to see if they have any specific recommendations for your situation or if they can manually set up the required configuration on their end.
Remember, when making changes to your DNS settings, it may take some time (usually up to 48 hours) for the changes to propagate globally. After making the necessary changes, you'll need to verify the domain ownership in the AWS Amplify console to complete the custom domain setup.
