Old gentleman needs direction

I'm an old guy trying to set up AWS backup for my PC at home. I've been trying to do it but haven't been able to do much more than set up the account and some of the initial backup info. But I am lost after that. Is it possible to do this? Do I need to have another app on my PC that will link to AWS? I had thought I could just point AWS to my hard drives and then have it all backed up. I really can't find any literature or tutorials that talk to a non-tech. Just please point me somewhere for the challenged like me. Thank you!

Hi old man :) You might upload your stuff in an S3 bucket. If you prefer having an S3 client to avoid accessing your AWS account every time you want to upload some file, I suggest using a client like this one: https://winscp.net/eng/index.php

If you want an automated way to backup or sync your hard drive with AWS, that’s another story :)

  • Thank you. I downloaded WinSCP and I got to IAM Identity Center setup. But then it goes to Users, Identity Center, etc. etc., none of which I can understand and every step takes me to something else I don't understand. I get that AWS is not intended for folks like me. I need to just use some regular cloud storage app and forget trying to make this work. I am just an old dog who wanted to learn a new trick. But I think No Mas is the right play now. Thanks for trying. With gratitude, Ken

AWS Backup is for backing up resources within AWS.

https://aws.amazon.com/backup/getting-started/

AWS Backup makes it easy to centrally configure backup policies and monitor backup activity for AWS resources, such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances, Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes, Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) databases, Amazon DynamoDB tables, Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) file systems, Amazon FSx file systems, and AWS Storage Gateway volumes.
