what other data input types can be used pipe input mode in sagemaker? an example of implementation is here https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/sagemaker-nysummit2018/, and can this be used for inference as well as, similar to training?

Pipe mode support reading data from Amazon S3. Pipe mode can be used for Batch inference as described in the blog.
