Alerts for RDS Allocated Storage above certain threshold

0

We want to set up an alert for when the allocated storage on an RDS instance breaches a certain threshold due to auto-scaling. However, we cannot find a CloudWatch metric that exposes the current allocated storage. There seems to be only the metric for free storage space.

Could anyone suggest another approach to achieve this?

You could trigger a Lambda from RDS DB Instance events for storage modification, then in the Lambda query the DB Instance storage size and either alert to SNS directly from there or write a custom metric value and set up an alarm.

  • Thanks, yes we will follow this approach by triggering a Lambda function on the RDS-EVENT-0218 (autoscaling completed) event.
