EC2 RHEL yum SSL error

0

I get an SSL error when trying to run yum update:

[OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to rhui.ap-southeast-2.aws.ce.redhat.com:443 ] Error: Failed to download metadata for repo 'rhel-8-appstream-rhui-rpms': Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist: Curl error (35): SSL connect error for https://rhui.ap-southeast-2.aws.ce.redhat.com/pulp/mirror/content/dist/rhel8/rhui/8/x86_64/appstream/os [OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to rhui.ap-southeast-2.aws.ce.redhat.com:443 ]

There is no active subscription:

System Purpose Status: Unknown

I've been troubleshooting the proxy server at our company and they state the connection should not be blocked.

Are there any additional configuration needed to subscribe or allow access to the repo rhui.REGION.aws.ce.redhat.com?

This page references a "basic subscription" but I can't find any more information https://aws.amazon.com/partners/redhat/faqs/

Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Amazon EC2 images include a basic subscription for updates and maintenance fixes that is reflected in the price charged by Amazon Web Services. There is no need for a separate agreement with Red Hat or additional charges.

EDIT/UPDATE: It seems like this is related to RHEL 8, I don't have this issue with a RHEL 7 AMI

Hello, thank you for your post. I have launched a Red Hat 8 instance in ap-southeast-2 and confirmed that I am able to run yum update and connect to the RHUI URL with no issues. I suspect that the issue is unique to your EC2 instance. No additional configurations are required to allow the instance to connect to the RHUI, however, there may be some unique aspect of your instance that is blocking the connection. I encourage you to open a support case so that our support engineers can inspect the issue with greater detail and assist you with resolving the issue.
