Increase monthly spending limit in Mechanical Turk

0

I would like to publish a batch on mechanical turk. When I do this I am informed that I'm exeeding my monthly spending limit.

I have tried contacting support about this issue but have only recieved automated replies, dispite multiple follow-ups.

How can I get a working account?

You do not need to submit a support request for quota increases. Instead, you can request a service quota increase by visiting Service Quotas in the AWS Console. Select the AWS Services from the left-hand menu and then search for, and select, Mechanical Turk under the Find services search bar. Select "Monthly usage" and click the "Request quota increase" button. Enter your desired increase and then click Request.

  • Thanks for your reply. I found the relevant page and can see that my existing quota value is 500,000USD, which I have not used any of.

I still cannot publish anything in mechanical turk and the error message remains.

  • I found the spot you're talking about, but that didn't solve the problem. It says the "applied quota value" was already 1,500 (which I assume is US dollars). I don't intend to spend nearly that much, so adjusting that limit doesn't seem to be necessary.

I'm a brand new requester, and I added a valid credit card on my AWS account. But I tried to publish a little test HIT with a total cost of under $1, and MTurk won't publish it, saying "You have exceeded your monthly credit limit."

Do you have any ideas for a workaround here? Is there a way for a new requester to pre-pay for HITs using a credit card (like MTurk does for older accounts)?

  • You are correct, that is the monthly spend limit.

Digging a bit more, it appears new accounts must be verified first. Please reach out to the Mechanical Turk team at https://support.aws.amazon.com/#/contacts/aws-mechanical-turk, in addition to AWS Support.

  • Do also verify that you are located within one of the countries on this list: https://www.mturk.com/help#can_requesters_outside_us_use_mturk

Were you ever able to get the increase and how long did it take? I have a support case that has been open for 4 days now with the same response every time I follow up "We haven't increased yet -- we're working on it".

They really should tell you your limit is set to 0 as a new account so you can request an increase or verification long before you need to publish your batch. I'm running up against a deadline and can't do anything about it because of the lack of transparency.
