No Wordpress option for Windows

0

Complete noob here so sorry for the basic question: I was looking to deploy a simple WordPress website on AWS, I just need a website where I can upload my own HMTM/JavaScript. In my research on AWS I came across LightSail as a solution, read the documentation and watched the videos that looked super easy. But when I went to do it myself and choose the Windows instance, there is no option to install WordPress as shown in the videos. I do see this option under Linux but I know nothing at all about Linux. I've searched the forums extensively and online but I cannot find a simple solution for using WordPress on a Windows instance. I did see in one forum response that MySQL is needed for WordPress, does than mean WordPress itself is only available for Linux?

Thank you very much for any direction you can point me in

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Lightsail.

WordPress is designed to work on Linux. It's fairly common for people to develop their WordPress content or code on Windows and then upload it to a Linux server. You can upload your files from a Windows PC to Linux using SFTP https://lightsail.aws.amazon.com/ls/docs/en_us/articles/amazon-lightsail-connecting-to-linux-unix-instance-using-sftp

Strictly speaking, Wordpress is designed to run on PHP ... the OS isn't a major factor.

I know of sites running Wordpress on Windows without a problem. I'm also aware of sites running wordpress on IBM i (formerly iSeries, System i, & AS/400).

That said, the most common OS that wordpress is run on is indeed Linux.
