EC2 G2 instance End-of-Life

0

My business is on an EC2 G2 Instance. I received an "end-of-life" notice from AWS that customers should migrate to the upgraded G-Series (G4) before March 31st, 2024. I am not a Dev or skilled in these matters and hope someone can help me with these simple question: "What will happen to my current EC2 G2 Instance beyond March 2024 if I do not migrate? Is the notice I received a "suggestion" or a "necessity"? Will my G2 continue to operate as it always has beyond March 2024? Is it simply a matter of G2 no longer being supported by AWS? ...I need to know if I'm okay, or need to panic. Thank you for any help the community can provide.

Hello.

The document below states that there are no plans to delete it, so I think it can be used even after the expiration date.
Therefore, the currently running G2 instance can be used as is.
I think the G2 instance will simply become unusable when creating a new EC2.
However, since G4 instances have higher processing performance than G2 instances, we recommend changing to G4 instances.

Q: Are my Previous Generation instances going to be deleted?

No. Your C1, C3, CC2, CR1, G2, HS1, M1, M2, M3, R3 and T1 instances are still fully functional and will not be deleted because of this change.

Please note that you must stop EC2 once to change the instance type.

  • Thank you! As long as our current EC2 G2 keeps working, we likely won't convert to the new G-Series...We were confused because the AWS email seemed to imply it was a necessity, (but I likely read it wrong)... But on more stupid follow-up question. You wrote "We must stop EC2 to change the instance type", but we DON'T need to STOP if we stay with our current G2 instance, correct? (I told you it was stupid ;) ...Thank you again for your help and reply!
