Upgrading a lightsail instance hosting a VPN server breaks it

0

Hey guys,

I followed the exisiting guide on upgrading lightsail instances via snapshoting. Stopped the server. Made the snapshot. Deployed it to a new better instance (I used the first pricing tier and wanted to upgrade to the second one for more RAM). Reassigned the static IP to the new instance.

In theory, the software should be oblivious to the fact that it runs on better harware now and cosider itself the exact same vitual server. In practice, that breaks it - both VPNs stop working, I can neither connect to them via management software nor connect to them as a client.

Clearly, something changed when deployng a snapshot. But what?

Is there any path of upgrading the existing virtual server that won't break it?

Server is sub-critical for the company, some downtime is possible, but making a new server from scratch and generating all the new access keys for all the users due to a (what I thought was) simple upgrade will be an enourmous PITA.

Hello,

it may be a change on the underline TLS Certificates used by VPNs and Communications in general.

If you can't bring the VPN conf over, try to update an instance not having VPN and setup it later.

I know it is an ugly troubleshooting, but it's the first thing that came to my mind.
